Gun Safety Instructor Shoots Student In Ohio

LANCASTER, Ohio — Police say an instructor at a central Ohio gun safety class has accidentally shot a student during a "safety on gun" class.

It is reported that 73-year-old Terry J. Dunlap Sr. was demonstrating a handgun at a training facility on Saturday when he fired a bullet that ricocheted off a desk and into the right arm of 26-year-old Michael Piemonte.

The student says the .38-caliber bullet hit him between his elbow and armpit. He says many of the students in the class were nurses who helped stabilize him before he was transported to a hospital.

Piemonte tells the newspaper it appears Dunlap didn’t know the gun was loaded. Dunlap hasn’t responded to requests for comment.

A police report lists the shooting as accidental.

 

アメリカのオハイオ州で、銃の安全講習で講師が誤って受講生を射撃し、受講生は腕を負傷した。

受講生は26歳のマイケル・ピエモンテさん。誤って発射された銃弾が机に当たり、跳ね返った銃弾がピエモンテさんの右腕に腕に当たった。

Freedom of Speech VS Freedom of Privacy?

Authorities in Southeast Asia countries, including Japan, have increasingly monitored web sites, web boards and social media such as Facebook in recent years to monitor peoples behaviors and activity. Add LINE to that growing list of programs under scrutiny.

The provider of the popular LINE application for smartphones has been urged by the Kyoto prefectural government to take preventive measures to track and monitor potential crimes.

Police are becoming more aware of the importance in tracking what goes on in social communication to gather information or prevent crimes. An example cited by the police involves a recent killing by a group of teens using the popular line app to communicate with one another in organizing a situation which ultimately resultedin the death of another individual. Another example was how the app was used in an incident involving a 17 year old boy arrested on suspicion of sharing child porn video using the app.

Both in Japan and abroad, government officials are starting to recognize the importance of gathering information in hopes of either preventing or solving crimes. However, does the government have a right to private correspondence regardless of the purpose? Would Freedom of speech and privacy end?

 

日本を含めるアジアの国々がインターネット上の活動の監視を強める動きが増えている中、ＬＩＮＥというチャット用のアプリケーションの監視も強化されている。

警察は、犯罪を事前に防ぐためにはこのようなソーシャルメディア上の情報を把握する必要があると主張している。

実際に日本国内でも、ＬＩＮＥを使用した集団殺人や、児童ポルノの共有などの事例が増えてきているのは事実だ。

I surely hope they keep an open mind in considering our radical recommendations considering that they were not "tried and true" techniques.
Anthony:

Mr. Stephenson is a no nonsense businessman so I am confident you had his utmost attention. I really feel he was impressed by both of you in that you offered thinking and insight that was "outside of the box".

Hiroshi:

I really appreciate your kind words Anthony, but I felt I could have done better on my part. Carl was a real life saver when he stepped in to explain the details of our proposal. Thanks Carl, I could not have pulled through without you.

Carl:

Don’t beat yourself over it so much Hiroshi. You did perfectly fine!

Anthony:

Hiroshi, I agree with Carl. You stuck to your guns when they tried to break down your proposal and you did not waver in your opinions. That in itself shows credibility on your part.

Hiroshi:

I am thankful for your kind words. I just feel I could have done something better!

Using ”Verb + ing” vs ”Verb + to”

Examples of how "Verb + ing" is used:

Q – Why does the academic background count in employment and in promotions?

A – Industry has become highly technical with the advancement of scientific technology, and jobs requiring specialization have sprung up one after another. Japan is not the only country that finds a high educational level, or in other words, an advanced educational background necessary to train a work force able to tackle these highly specialized jobs.
Most students in Japan go on to high school after finishing compulsory education in the elementary and junior high school levels. Many have a desire to continue on to Universities in 1994 made up 43.3% or less than half of all high school graduates.
Many of those not making it into universities have another try at the entrance examination or join the work force. Getting admitted to a well-known university lies behind this stiff entrance examination competition. Admittance to a good university where a high percentage of its graduates enter large, well-known corporations requires intense studying from the elementary school level on.
The company trains new employees to become valuable assets to the company and hence, the prevailing reasoning that qualified workers can be had from good universities and the importance placed on an academic background in hiring.

Graduates from well-known universities are conspicuous in other companies and the government. Many businesses eye to make use of graduates from well-known universities because of the financial and political links that they share.

Q – なぜ、就職や出世に学歴がものを言うのですか？

A – 科学技術の発達により産業は高度になり、次々と専門職を必要としてきたので、そういう仕事ができる人たちを育てるために、高い教育水準、つまり学歴が必要となったのは、決して日本だけではないと思います。

日本では現在、義務教育の小学校・中学校を卒業した後、大半が高校に行き、さらに大学にも行きたいと望むのですが、大学に入ることができるのは1994年でも、高校卒業生の半分以下の43.3％です。
そうなると、多くが浪人あるいは就職を余儀無くされるわけですから、とにかく、どんな大学でも入れればいいというわけで受験戦争に巻き込まれていきます。しかも、大企業への就職率がいい大学に入ろうとすると、もう、小学校の時から勉強、勉強です。

しかも、日本では会社側に、採用した人間を会社内で優秀な会社人間として育て上げるといった傾向がありましたから、いい大学に優秀な人材がいる——と短絡に考え、学歴を重視した採用をしています。
また有名大学の出身者は、他の会社でも官庁でも活躍をしていることから、企業はその人脈を利用することも考えています。
