Doctor Runs 22 Miles Wearing Face Mask to Show it Doesn’t Cut Oxygen Levels

Tom Lawton, who works at the Bradford Royal Infirmary in Yorkshire, north England, has run 22 miles to work and back wearing a mask to help stop the spread of misinformation and conspiracy theories around face coverings and to raise funds for charity.
He decided to run with the mask on, following his concerns for people with respiratory illnesses who want to wear a mask but are too scared to do so over false information.

He was wearing a pulse oximeter, a device that measures oxygen saturation, as proof and he recorded that oxygen levels never fell below 98% of what it would usually be.

Tom has also raised more than £2,400 for the Trussell Trust, a charity that works to end food poverty and supports food banks throughout the U.K..

Tom said: “There are obviously people who can’t wear masks for one reason or another, mostly for psychological reasons or PTSD, but everyone who can do so really should. My mask protects you, your mask protects me.“

ヨークシャーにあるブラッドフォード・ロイヤル診療所の医者であるTom Lawton氏は、仕事場までの行き来を、マスクをつけて行った。顔を覆うことに対する間違った情報や、陰謀説の拡散止め慈善活動のための資金を集めるためだ。

Lawton氏は、間違った報道によりマスクをしたくてもなかなか出来ない呼吸器疾患患者を心配して今回のマスクランを決意した。

Lawton氏は、証拠としてPulse Oximeterという酸素濃度を測る機器をつけ、濃度が通常値とされる98％以下に一度も下がらなかったことを記録した。

Lawton氏は、食品困窮を終わらせ、イギリス全土のフードバンクを支援するためのトラッセル基金のため、2400ポンド以上を集めた。

Beetlemania: Japanese collectors pay high prices for big bugs

Akio Ohara reaches into a plastic container and scoops out a beetle that is bigger than his entire hand.　Its shell is a lustrous golden brown, and its majestic top horn stretches out far past the tips of Ohara’s fingers. Underneath, a smaller horn curves menacingly upward, primed on a set of powerful jaws.

“You’ve got to be careful it doesn’t pinch your finger,” Ohara says. “That would be very painful.”

What Ohara is holding is a Hercules beetle, the longest species of beetle in the world, which has been known to change hands for millions of yen.

Ohara is the owner of Beetle On, a specialist store in Tokyo’s Ota Ward that sells rhinoceros beetles and stag beetles, equipment for keeping and breeding them, and various other beetle-related toys and　related items.

Rhinoceros beetles and stag beetles have long been firm favorites with Japanese children and insect enthusiasts. Many people keep them as pets or breed them, raising them from eggs to full-grown adults, while others pit them against each other in fighting tournaments, sometimes with cash prizes.

甲羅は光沢のある黄金ブラウン色、壮大な上の角は大原氏の指の先をはるかに超え伸びている。
その下には小さいほうの角が脅かすように上方にそそり立ち、強力なあごに繋がっている。

「気を付けてください。指を挟まれるなんてもんじゃありません」大原氏は言います「とてつもなく痛いですよ。」

大原氏の手中にいるのは、カブトムシの中でも世界で一番長い体長を持つヘラクレスオオカブトで、数百万円で取引されることもある。

大原氏は東京都大田区にある株式会社Beetle Onの代表取締役で、同社はカブトムシ・クワガタムシと飼育用機器やおもちゃ、道具を取り扱う専門店だ。

カブトムシとクワガタムシは昔から日本の子供と昆虫愛好家から根強い人気を誇る。

setback　「失敗」

  setbackは「（進歩などの）妨げ、遅れ、後退、失敗」。同義語は、hindrance「妨害、邪魔」、delay「遅れ」、reverse「失敗、損失」、defeat「挫折、失敗」など。なお、set back「阻止する、遅れさせる」と、動詞としても使う。例えば、His plans were set back due to lack of funds.「彼の計画は資金不足のために遅れた」のようになる。
 
ビシネス英会話 wear and tear on～ 「～の摩耗と亀裂」
Concerns over escalator use became a public issue last month after the city of Nanjing’s subway operator issued a social media post that cited statistics saying 95% of escalators experienced severe wear and tear on the right side.

Last year I upgraded from Boyfriend to Husband and noticed a distinct slowdown in overall system performance, particularly in the flower and jewelery applications, which operated flawlessly under Boyfriend.

In addition, Husband uninstalled many other valuable programs, such as Romance and Personal Attention and then installed undesirable programs such as Rugby, Football, Sailing and Continuous TV.

Conversation no longer runs, and Housecleaning simply crashes the system. I’ve tried running Nagging to fix these problems, but to no avail.

What can I do?

Dear Desperate,

First keep in mind, Boyfriend is an Entertainment Package, while Husband is an Operating System. Please enter the command: ‘http: I Thought You Loved Me.html’ and try to download Tears.

Don’t forget to install the Guilt update. If that application works as designed, Husband should then automatically run the applications Jewelry and Flowers, but remember – overuse of the above application can cause Husband to default to Grumpy Silence, Garden Shed or Beer.

Beer is a very bad program that will download the Snoring Loudly Beta.

Whatever you do, DO NOT install Mother-in-law (it runs a virus in the background that will eventually seize control of all your system resources).

Also, do not attempt to reinstall the Boyfriend program. These are unsupported applications and will crash Husband.

In summary, Husband is a great system, but it does have limited memory and cannot learn new applications quickly. It also tends to work better running one task at a time. You might consider buying additional software to improve memory and performance. We recommend Food and Hot Lingerie.
