China lifts pandemic-era ban on group tours to Japan, 77 other countries
China lifted its COVID-19 pandemic ban on group tours to Japan on Aug. 10 as well as 77 other countries, a move that’s likely to provide a significant boost to Japan’s tourism industry.
“From now on, national travel agencies and online travel companies will resume operating outbound group tours and ‘air ticket and hotel’ business for Chinese citizens to relevant countries and regions,” China’s Culture and Tourism Ministry said Aug. 10.
Beijing had barred group tours to Japan since January 2020 at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. It is unclear when the first batch of Chinese group tourists will visit Japan since travel agencies need to make arrangements.
The latest list of countries to which China allows group tours also includes South Korea, the U.S., Australia and the U.K.
In 2019, about 9.6 million Chinese visitors came to Japan, where they spent some ¥1.77 trillion, or about a third of the total amount all foreign visitors spent in the country, according to the Japan Tourism Agency.

Japanese firm’s hiking app helps rescuers locate stranded climbers
A popular hiking app developed by a Japanese firm has become a useful tool for rescuers to locate people stranded on mountains. The GPS technology in Yamap can share a phone’s exact location even when there is no cellphone service.
Yamap users first download a map to their phones. They can find their location on that map, and share their location with families and friends even without cell service.
Yamap Inc., the Fukuoka-based tech company behind the app, said it has been contacted by police, relief teams and others seeking app data on 200 cases of missing climbers in 2022, up sharply from 46 in 2020 and 89 in 2021.
Sixteen prefectural police forces, including in Iwate, Miyagi and Shizuoka, have signed an agreement with the company for fast access to accurate information on people potentially caught in accidents.

「思い出させるもの、復習の、再教育の」I’m taking a refresher course in accounting, because I want to start doing my own taxes.
自分で税処理をやり始めたいので、会計の復習コースを受講していています。
refresh(リフレッシュする)という動詞に「～するもの、～する人」を意味する接尾語-erが付いた形です。この時のrefreshは「記憶をリフレッシュする＝思い出させるもの」という意味になります。上記のようにrefresher course/class（再教育講習）の形でよく使われます。
takeaway
「（議論や会議などから得る）重要なポイント」The takeaway from her speech is not to be afraid of making mistakes.
彼女のスピーチの重要なポイントは、ミスを恐れるなということ。
「持ち帰る」を意味するtake awayが名詞化して「議論などから持ち帰るべきこと＝覚えておくべき重要な点」となります。ちなみに食べ物の「お持ち帰り」は英豪ではtakeaway、米加ではtakeoutです。

「完璧な、見事に正確な」She’s good at motivating her staff, always achieving an inch-perfect balance between criticizing them and complimenting them.
彼女はスタッフのやる気を引き出すのが上手で、批判したり褒めたりして常にバランスが完璧です。
文字通りでは「インチ単位で完璧な」を意味しますが、状kの様に比喩的にも使えます。ちなみに1インチは2.54センチメートルです。
