Finnish Karaoke taxi lets passengers pay for their rides by singing

If you buy something for a song you get it cheap. But in early July in the Finnish city of Turku, people paid for a taxi with only a song – no cash or credit card needed.

The pilot taxi service ran from July 6 to 8, during the Ruisrock music festival. It shuttled festival-goers from the Aura riverbank to the festival bus station, a 10-minute ride.

The driver, Topias Uusipere, said that the electric taxi plays Karaoke music for passengers to sing along to. Users make playlists before the start of the ride. But if the singing stops, so does the engine.

“The car does not move without singing,” Uusipere said.

The shuttle was run by Fortum, a Finnish power company. Fortum wanted to draw attention to electric cars. They can help fight global warming by cutting emissions.

This year, 100,000 people attended the festival. Artists such as The Chainsmokers, N.E.R.D and Dua Lipa performed.

フィンランドのカラオケタクシー、歌で支払い

　曲のために何かを買う場合、出来る限りコストを抑えたいものである。7月の初旬、フィンランドの都市であるTurkでは、タクシー料金の支払いを歌で行った。現金もカードも不要。

　このサービスは7月6日～8日の間試験的に導入され、Aura riverbankとイベント会場の駅を往復運航した、片道10分。

　ドライバーである、トピアス・ウシペレ氏は、電動タクシーは乗客がメロディーに沿って歌えるようにカラオケ曲を流すと話した。利用客はタクシーに乗る前にプレイリストを作り、歌が止まるとタクシーのエンジンも止まってしまう仕掛けだ。

ウシピレ氏は、「タクシーは歌なしでは動かない」と話した。

このタクシーは、フォルタムというフィンランドの電力会社によって運営され、フォルタムは（二酸化炭素の）放出を削減することによる地球温暖化の打開策として、電気自動車に注目を集めたかったとしている。

今年はイベントに1万にの人が参加した。The Chainsmokers、 N.E.R.D や Dua Lipaなどのアーティストが歌を披露した。

All aboard Hello Kitty: Pink Bullet train debuts in Japan.

A Hello Kitty-themed bullet train tool its inaugural trip June 30. Adorned with the cartoon icon inside and out, it’s a dream ride for fans of the internationally popular character.

The Shinkansen, run by West Japan Railway Co., will connect Osaka and Fukuoka through September.

The stylish eight-car train is pained pink and white, showcasing Hello Kitty images and pink ribbons from flooring to seat convers and windows

The JR West Shinkansen departed Hakata station at 6:40 AM and arrived at 11:10 AM at Shin-Osaka Station, where hundreds of fans were waiting.

They cheered and took photos of the bullet train during its 16-minute stopover before it headed back to Fukuoka.

ハローキティー新幹線が日本でデビュー

ハローキティーをテーマにした新幹線が6月30日に初就航した。国際的に人気が高いキャラクターのファンにとってみれば、まさに夢の乗り物だ。

JR西日本運営のもと、キティー新幹線は大阪・福岡間を結び、9月末まで運行する予定である。

スタイリッシュな8両編成の車体はピンクと白で彩られ、ハローキティーの絵とピンクのリボンが車体を覆っている。

JR西日本のキティー号は、朝6時40分頃に出向し、11時10分頃に数百のファンが待つ新大阪駅に到着した。

車両が福岡間向けて出発するまでの16分間の待ち合わせの時間にファンは写真を撮り歓声を上げた。

mindlessly 「考えもなくやたらと」
Mindlessly checking Facebook makes you an awful lot like a lab rat.
  「フェイスブックを考えもなくやたらとチェックするのは、実験用のネズミが取る行動と実によく似ている」
  mindlesslyは「無分別に、無思慮に、考えもなしに」という意味。他にも、I was mindlessly browsing the Internet last night for hours.「私は昨晩考えもなく、何時間もインターネットを閲覧していた」、He was staring at the ceiling mindlessly.「彼は何も考えずにただ天井を見つめていた」のように使う。browseは「インターネットを閲覧する」。 mindlesslyの同義語は、senselessly「意味もなく、愚かに」、stupidly、foolishly、idiotically「間抜けにも、愚かに」、unthinkingly「何も考えずに」、thoughtlessly「軽率に、よく考えないで」など。 an awful lotは「実に、とんでもなく」、lab ratは「実験用ネズミ」。
 
gimmick 「小物」
Schools have embraced marketing gimmicks like “Class of ’18” bumper stickers to rally students around their graduation year.
  「2018年度卒業見込みの学生向けに、自覚を持たせようと『18年度組』と書かれたバンパー・ステッカーのようなマーケティング用の小物を販売している大学もある」
  gimmickは「（人の目を引くための）工夫、仕掛け、新案品、（巧妙に作られた）小物」という意味。特に、marketing gimmickは「（顧客を引きつけるための）仕掛け、装置、方法」を指す。同義語は、trick「策略、たくらみ」、ploy「（相手を出し抜くための）策略」、stunt「妙技、離れ業」など。attention grabber「注意を引くもの」と表現することもできる。
　他にも、The idea may be only the latest gimmick.「その考えは、単なる最新の策略かもしれない」、It sounds like a great sales gimmick to me. 「それは素晴らしい販売戦略のように私には聞こえる」のように使う。
　embraceは「進んで活用する」。
 
ビシネス英会話 so-and-so 「誰々」

  「男児の場合は、関係性攻撃を受けても、それが彼らの記憶からすぐに消えてしまうようだと述べた。そして「女児の場合、私の所に来て、『幼稚園のとき、誰々にこんなことをされたのを覚えている』と打ち明ける子供たちもいる」と、彼女は話した」
  so-and-soは「誰それ、誰々、何某」。特定の個人名を出したくない、あるいは出す必要のないときに用いる表現。Mr. /Ms.so-and-so とすると、それが男性、女性を特定できる。

Flying First Class

On a plane bound for New York the flight attendant approached a blonde sitting in the first class section and requested that she move to coach since she did not have a first class ticket.

The blonde replied, “I’m blonde, I’m beautiful, I’m going to New York, and I’m not moving.”

Not wanting to argue with a customer the flight attendant asked the co-pilot to speak with her. He went to talk with the woman asking her to please move out of the first class section.

Again, the blonde replied, “I’m blonde, I’m beautiful, I’m going to New York, and I’m not moving. “The co-pilot returned to the cockpit and asked the captain what he should do.

The captain said, “I’m married to a blonde, and I know how to handle this.” He went to the first class section and whispered in the blonde’s ear. She immediately jumped up and ran to the coach section mumbling to herself, “Why didn’t anyone just say so.”

Surprised, the flight attendant and the co-pilot asked what he said to her that finally convinced her to move from her seat. The pilot replied, “I told her the first class section wasn’t going to New York.”
