Anna May Wong becomes first Asian American to appear on US currency
The U.S. coins to display an Asian American began circulating in the U.S. on Oct. 25. The quarter-dollar coins issued by the U.S. Mint show actress Anna May Wong.
Wong was born Wong Liu Tsung in Los Angeles in 1905. Her first leading role in a film was in 1922’s “The Toll of the Sea”.
Wong appeared in more than 60 films. She became the first Asian American lead actor in a U.S. television show for her role in 1951 as a detective in “The Gallery of Madame Lin-Tsung”.
But she faced anti-Asian racism in Hollywood. She was typecast, underpaid and passed up for leading roles, Wong died in 1961 at age 56 from a heart attack.
The mint said the new coin is part of its American Women Quarters Program. Other quarters in the series feature author and civil rights champion Maya Angelou and astronaut Sally Ride, the first woman to go into space.

Wages allowed to be paid to digital payment apps
Japan is planning to start allowing companies to pay wages to digital payments apps like PayPay and Rakuten Pay from April, the labor ministry said in a bid to promote cashless payments as a way to stimulate the economy.
The maximum balance of such digital wallets will be set to 1 million yen, with employees able to use the funds to make purchases or remittances directly.
The upper limit was determined amid concerns that app users can not be protected sufficiently. Unlike banks, operators of the apps are not subject to the national deposit insurance system, which covers a principal of up to 10 million in case of bankruptcy.

「～を前倒しする」I think if we front-load the local hiring, we’ll be able to open most of the new branches by the end of June.
地元での採用活動を前倒しすれば、6月末までに新しい視点のほとんどを開店することが出来ると思います。
「前の方」を意味するfrontと「詰め込む」を意味するloadが合わさり生まれた動詞で、そこから「前方に詰め込む＝前倒しでやる」という意味に発展しました。
be hard on…
「…に厳しい、きつく当たる」The president is always hard on the general manager. Do you know why that is？
社長はいつも総務部長にきつく当たるよな。なぜなのだろう。
hardには「きつい、厳しい」という意味があり、それに、「接触」のイメージから「圧力」の間隔を持つ前置詞のonがつくことで、「…に厳しい、きつく当たる」という意味になります。
tipping point
「転換期」The social-media industry reached a tipping point once YouTube came onto the scene.
YouTubeが世に生まれてから、ＳＮＳ業過は転換期を迎えたんだ。
Tipは「ひっくり返る」という意味を持つ動詞で、そこからtipping pointは「ひっくり返る点＝転換点、転換期」を意味します。そこに例えば、「到達する」を意味するreachがつくことでreach a tipping point「転換期を迎える」となります。

Going 100 mph
Two guys left the bar after a long night of drinking, jumped in the car and started it up.
After a couple of minutes, an old man appeared in the passenger window and tapped lightly.
The passenger screamed, “Look at the window. There’s an old ghost’s face there!”
The driver sped up, but the old man’s face stayed in the window.
The passenger rolled his window down and part way and, scared out of his wits, said,
“What do you want?”
The old ma softly replied,
“You got any tobacco?”
The passenger handed the old man a cigarette and yelled,
“Step on it,” to the driver, rolling up the window in terror.
A few minutes later they calmed down and started laughing again.
The driver said,
“I don’t know what happened, but don’t worry we’re doing 80 now.”
All of a sudden there was a light tapping on the window and the old man reappeared.
“There he is again,” the passenger yelled. He rolled down the window and shakily said,
“Yes?”
“Do you have a light?”
the old man quietly asked.
The passenger threw a lighter out the window saying,
“Step on it!”
They were flooring it and going about 100 miles an hour, trying to forget what they had just seen and heard, when all of a sudden there came some more tapping.
“Oh my god! He’s back!” The passenger rolled down the window and screamed in stark terror,
“What now?”
The old man gently replied,
“You want some help getting out of the mud?”

おじいさんは訊きました。

彼らは今身に起こったことを忘れようと、ペダルを最大限踏み、時速は160キロ出ていました。 その時、またノックが聞こえたのです。
「やばい、あいつが戻ってきた！」助手席の男性は窓を開けて叫びました。
