Catch upとKeep upの違い

今回はCatch upとKeep upの使い方を解説します。

彼らの会話についていけませんでした。と言いたい場合
I couldn’t catch up their conversation.
I couldn’t keep up with their conversation.

Keep upは「(物事に対して)諦めず、(状況に)ついていく」という意味があります。
My friend’s company couldn’t keep up with the competition. (友人の会社は競争についていけませんでした)

一方、catch upは仕事や進行の「遅れを取り戻す」という意味があります。

I was sick and missed four days of work. It took me a week to catch up.
(私は病気で仕事を4日休んでしまいました。その分を取り戻す為に1週間かかってしまいました)

また、人に「追いつく」という意味でも使用されます。

He left the school before me, but I caught up with him near the station.
(彼は私より先に学校をでましたが、駅の近くで追いつきました)
