–Sam and Hiroko are discussing how the new changes in office reconfiguration has impacted them–
Sam: Hiroko, has the reconfiguration of your department resulted in any complaints thus far?
ヒロコ、部署の再編成の結果でこれまでに何か文句はあったかい？
 
Hiroko: Well, it is too soon to tell but I feel everyone has made the transition in stride. How is it going on your end? Is your section adapting well?
まだ分かるには早すぎるけど、難なく移行してくれたと思うわ。あなたの方はどう？あなたの部署は順調に慣れていってる？
 
Sam: The current layout of our workstations leave very little elbow room. Furthermore, it takes a bit of getting used as the expats are not accustomed to having coworkers sitting right in front of us with no partitions or dividers separating us. .
今のワークステーションの間取りだとゆとりがあまり残らなくて。その上、国外の人は同僚が仕切りや間仕切りなしで目の前にいるのには慣れていなくて、慣れるのにはちょっと時間がかかるんだ。
 
Hiroko: You’ll get over it. If you look on the bright side, at least we didn’t get the pink slip when the company profits took a nosedive. We just had to give up a little breathing room.
慣れるよ。楽観すれば私たちは会社の利益が急降下しても、解雇通知を受けなかっただけでも良かったわ。少しだけ場所の余裕をあきらめなければならなかっただけ。
 
Sam: Don’t take it the wrong way but I would have preferred the company saving costs by laying off some staff. Especially those who have exhibited subpar results. That would have allowed us to stay in the old office.
悪く捉えないでもらいたいんだけど、僕は会社がいくらか職員を解雇してコスト削減した方がよかったな。特に標準以下の結果を出したものに関しては。元のオフィスにいられたから。
 
Hiroko: I think that is a very pessimistic viewpoint. Do you really mean that?
とても悲観的な見方だと思うわ。本当にそう思っているの？
 
Sam: Honestly, I really do. I miss having my own personal space and I am pretty confident I would not have been one of the people let go had our company fired people.
本当に思っているよ。自分の個人空間が恋しいし、会社が社員を解雇した場合僕がその一人であった可能性はないことには自信あるしね。
